Marcado broke alertly and stayed in front throughout as she captured a 3 ½-furlong maiden claiming race by a head on Sunday at Hastings Race Course to become the first career winner for multiple stakes winner Second in Command.

The bay filly covered the distance in :40.27 in her career debut for owner Gil and Wil Stud Farm and trainer Cindy Krasner. Marcado is out of the unraced A Fleets dancer mare Dreams Start Here and from the family of Group 2 winner and sire Muqtarib.

An 11-year-old by Silver Deputy out of stakes-placed winner Stormeor, by Lypheor (GB), Second in Command has 17 two-year-olds in his first crop. He stands for $1,528 ($1,500 Canadian) at Road’s End Farm in Abbotsford, British Columbia.

Second in Command won seven of 29 starts and earned $271,622 in his five seasons on the track, including victories in the 2003 Best Turn Stakes at Aqueduct and 2006 Troy Stakes at Saratoga Race Course.
